Introduction to and some problems in modeling subsurface flows
In this talk I will recall
the two phase flow equations (Darcy's flow) that are often used in
modeling the flow of oil-water mixture in porous medium. I will discuss
some of the limitations of these simple equations and how to discretize
the equations with finite element methods. Time permitting, I will
continue with difficulties in acquiring data for the problem and on how
to improve the data using e.g. ensemble Kalman filtering.
